6.1.2: Mesocycle: The Purpose‑Driven Block

A mesocycle is a block of training—usually 8–16 weeks—during which volume, exercise selection, and weekly structure remain stable. Its defining feature is a single question: What do I want to improve right now?

That could be a visually lagging muscle group (e.g., hamstrings). It could be an aesthetic goal (e.g., more capped shoulders, a fuller glute‑hamstring tie‑in). It could simply be a desire to push your overall strength on a core lift while maintaining everything else. Whatever the goal, the mesocycle organises volume, exercise selection, and session layout around it.
